Psychedelic-Driven Pharmacological Therapy in Mental Illness
(Psychopharmatherapy)
ABOUT US
Evidence-based medicine for a new age of therapies and cures.
For decades, many substances classified as "psychedelic" have been scheduled, or made illegal for public consumption and highly regulated in clinical settings, despite growing evidence that they have incredible practical applications. An emerging wealth of data is driving a revolution in medicine, psychology, and pharmacology: the use of psychedelic substances in the treatment of mental health disorders.

The goal of this website is to provide answers to FAQs and more importantly, to provide a timeline of psychedelic research to serve as a tool for students, researchers, and legislators when the time comes for them to become educated on this emerging field of science.

Note: This website is intended as a source of information on the therapeutic applications of psychedelic substances, and in no way is intended to advocate for, educate on, or encourage the use of psychedelic substances outside of therapeutic contexts and without medical supervision. Proceeding without medical direction can lead to dangerous situations for both mental and physical health.

WHAT MENTAL ILLNESSES CAN WE TARGET?
While applications of psychedelic medicines are vast and at this point in time not fully explored, there are already promising areas of research, with four highlighted below. It should be noted that psychedelic therapies at this time are not associated with positive outcomes in patients suffering from psychotic disorders, like schizophrenia.
DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY
Several substances have been documented to produce marked decreases in the negative symptoms associated with anxiety and depression, allowing patients to feel more connected with their loved ones, themselves, and the world around them.
Notable Classes: Serotonergics, Dissociatives.
POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD)
Multiple clinical trials, including one completed as recently as 2021 have shown that psychedelic and empathogenic therapy can allow those with of PTSD to reprocess their trauma to live a more peaceful, adjusted life.
Notable Classes: Catecholamines.
ADDICTION
Before psychedelic substances were criminalized, there were promising clinical trials demonstrating effective use of classic psychedelics in treating alcoholism. More recent clinical trials have demonstrated the utility of some of the other classes in the treatment of alcohol and drug addiction.
Notable Classes: Serotonergics, Dissociatives.
END OF LIFE COMFORT
The use of psychedelic medicines in terminal cancer patients is the subject of emerging studies, with promising results. Theories suggest that feelings of unity with oneself, those around them, and life itself bring feelings of comfort and acceptance in individuals who are terminally ill.

Notable Classes: Serotonergics.
